Individual psychotherapy

Individual psychotherapy is a method of treatment of emotional disturbances and solving personal problems by psychological means. This happens during and through personal contact with a therapist. Psychotherapeutic methods vary depending on the model of human psyche adopted by the therapist, on understanding sources of mental disorders and, finally, a purpose of therapy.

Mostly, individual psychotherapy begins with one or more preliminary meetings, called consultations or an interview. Afterwards, therapeutic contract is concluded setting out on what the patient wants to work, how often he will meet with a therapist, how long a meeting will last and how much they will cost. The ways of cancelling a session are determined; an issue of discontinuing the treatment is discussed.

Treatment is usually with a frequency of one – two meetings a week, it usually lasts 50 minutes. Treatment lasts from a few to tens of months.
